Aerial images work best when they reveal something that cannot be understood from the ground: the relationship between landscape, architecture, weather and human scale.

For this reel I was interested in controlled movement rather than spectacle alone. Slow approaches, deliberate altitude changes and patient framing give the landscape enough time to become part of the story.

Portugal offers an unusual range of visual environments within a relatively compact area. Coastline, dry terrain, cities and changing Atlantic light can all support very different moods. The cinematographer’s job is to choose movement that belongs to the subject rather than simply demonstrating what the camera can do.

Planning an aerial sequence

Before a flight, I look at the direction of light, the shape of the terrain, possible foreground elements and the relationship between consecutive shots. Aerial footage becomes much stronger when it is designed as a sequence with rhythm, not collected as isolated beautiful views.

I am available for aerial cinematography and camera work in Lisbon, across Portugal and on productions throughout Europe.
